The factory produces leading brands of sports and health drinks and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and needed to renew the concrete hardstanding in the goods in yard without affecting production. A detailed investigation of the sub-base and underlying soil conditions using small diameter probing allowed operations to continue while the cause of the movement and deterioration within the construction was established. This allowed our engineers to design a new “floating” slab to sit on the existing without the need for deep excavations, which could therefore safely be cast without affecting production. Following the success of this scheme, subsequent further improvements to the site access roads and hardstandings are now being planned, using similar construction planning methods to frame the design so that production at the site remains uninterrupted.
