Middleton Lakes Footbridge, Staffordshire

Part of a scheme to turn a disused quarry into a nature reserve and wildlife trail, this project called for a single span 36m footbridge to be erected over a remote part of the River Tame. The chosen design of a bow string arch in high grade steel provided an elegant “minimum weight” solution that would also provide the necessary clearance above the maximum flood level of the river without extensive work to create elevated approach ramps.
